The Falcon Inn, Arncliffe
A famous Dales pub - the original Woolpack in Emmerdale Farm

About the Falcon Inn

Deep within the Yorkshire Dales National Park lies the valley of Littondale. Its dry-stone walled fields and richly green, steep hillsides of open pasture and hanging woods, crested by craggy outcrops and exposed moorland, show the Yorkshire Dales at its very best.

Following the winding course of the river Skirfare up the dale, one arrives at the village of Arncliffe, a small farming community set around a broad village green. And there you'll find the Falcon, a traditional Dales village Inn owned by the Miller family for four generations.

The Falcon, with its mullioned bay windows and ivy-covered exterior, offers superb Dales hospitality. Ale - Timothy Taylors Best Bitter - is still served in the time-honoured fashion: from barrel to glass via a porcelain jug. The evening meal and breakfast are as you would expect - traditional home cooking and plenty of it! (Vegetarians are equally welcome, by prior arrangement).

There are five letting rooms

Accommodation is available in single and double bedrooms, with the option of en-suite facilities. The residents’ dining room and sitting room both look out onto the village green and surrounding cottages, the sitting room’s blazing open fire creating a perfect atmosphere for post-dinner coffee and reflection on the day just gone.

Overlooked by Yew Cougar Scar and in the conservation area of Arncliffe, the Falcon is an excellent base from which to explore the delights the Yorkshire Dales has to offer. It is ideally situated to take advantage of many scenic walks, with superb geological features nearby, such as Gordale Scar and Malham Cove. All around are opportunities to view the Dales wildlife, flowers and stunning scenery.

The Falcon has four miles of its own private fly fishing on the river Skirfare, which gently winds its way down Littondale. The river is not artificially stocked and is inhabited by wild brown trout. Fishing (plus helpful local knowledge) is available from Monday to Saturday during the trout season. Day tickets are free to Falcon residents and available to non-residents from the bar.
